The film does an amazing job of presenting a haunting vision of the future, without making it seem unreal. There are no flying cars or ray guns here, the natural progression of technology mixed with the 'old' tech we have around us now is presented in a perfect blend. Past events are mentioned and hinted at throught the movie despite not having happend in the world yet, a perfect example is a jumper that Theo is given to ware later in the movie is from the 2012 london olympics, but the in his world the jumper is tatty and old, with the olympics having happened 15 years ago.
The plot is well presented and has some surprising twists and feels like the route each character would take. Several of the big name actors involved are killed in the movie, which makes a refreshing change as you never get the feeling that certain people are safe just because of who is playing them.
Certain parts of the film including 3 seperate 'action' scenes are presented as uncut long shots, they are amazing to watch and I can't even begin to imagine how much work they must have required to make.
As a fan of science fiction films they can often be effective escapes from reality, however its very rare that they feel as though the things we are seeing could happen in our lifetimes, if at all. Children of men is one of those rare times that I really wonder that despite the hellish reality on offer that this could easily be a future we could grow into.
So children of men is my number one favorite movie from any genre.
